System Administrator Territory Generation
Description
What prompted me to enrol in this course was missing out on an internal career opportunity for the role of Systems Administrator. I was found suitable but not preferred; the feedback was that my lack of formal IT skills let me down. The SysAdmin for Territory Generation is responsible for 3 key business systems.
Intelex - the training & safety managemet system
Surpas - the electronic permitting system
Pronto - finance & work management system
The SysAdmin provides advice & support to the business to ensure the efficient running of these key systems.
This includes database maintenance, backing up data and troubleshooting errors. This requires the Sys Admin to effectively communicate with both internal & external stakeholders, eg the Safety team or Intelex support team.
The SysAdmin plays a vital role in maintaining the ongoing stability of the various databases, by performing regular backups, monitoring security issues, and performing system upgrades in consultation with the relevant stakeholders as required.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with our current SysAdmin over the last couple of years. While we have been troubleshooting issues I’ve been able to learn a lot about how the system works and why things are set up the way they are. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the nuts and bolts behind the curtain and would like learn more. These databases and systems, are not our core business, but they make it possible for us to do business. They store the information and provide the reports that allow us to generate electricity safely reliably and efficiently. This SysAdmin role will expand my transferable skills set and ensure I can remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.
